At Owens & Minor, our distribution services leverage our cutting-edge technology to deliver products with pinpoint accuracy, while driving costs out of the supply chain. Our network allows us to reach 90% of healthcare providers in the United States within 4 hours from our 7 million square feet of dedicated warehousing space. We serve customers across Europe from 11 locations with nearly 200,000 m2 of warehouse space. We offer our provider customers access to a broad range of medical-surgical products—all through a single point of contact. Benefits include lowering on-hand inventories and freight costs, a reduced supply chain labor expense, and savings through improved product utilization within healthcare organizations.
Our manufacturer customers benefit from our ability to identify and eliminate distribution pain points within the healthcare supply chain. With our activity-based cost model, beginning at the point of manufacture, Owens & Minor can lower costs and raise service levels, enhancing competitive capabilities. We have invested in state-of-the-art technologies that allow us to implement and connect our systems and facilities globally, providing visibility into a controlled and validated warehousing environment.
Savings by the Case
Bulk product distribution provides healthcare customers with products in the shipping unit of measure—typically case quantities. Bulk distribution is best suited for those providers with an internal receiving staff and adequate dock space for pallet breakdown. This method of distribution is typically the lowest priced method of purchasing that Owens & Minor can offer.
Unit of Measure Shipping That Fits Your Needs
Low Unit of Measure distribution (LUM) provides healthcare customers with products in the lowest unit of measure—typically “each” or box. This distribution method is for customers that want to reduce total supply chain costs by having orders picked and packed for a department par level and delivered directly to the appropriate department as required. LUM enables customers to significantly reduce their receiving personnel and dock space, while also facilitating the delivery of products to end-users within the healthcare facility.
Comprehensive Emergency Response Program
As a leading distributor of medical and surgical products to hospitals across the United States, Owens & Minor recognizes its critical role in the healthcare supply chain during times of crises such as natural disasters and pandemics.
To prepare for an emergency or disaster, Owens & Minor will help to develop a plan for emergency orders, prepare surplus stock items, and determine pre-approval for substitutions for critical supplies and custom kits. Owens & Minor will create and retain standing orders according to specifications to be released under a customer-specific protocol, agreed to in advance, unless otherwise notified. A comprehensive Emergency Response Program will establish a framework for O&M to provide for the safety of our teammates, maintain business continuity, and ensure continued service to our customers. We will work with key personnel identified on site-specific emergency contact lists and expedite early orders if a disaster is imminent.
